Gloria Hodes is an OBIE-Winning singer/actress whose credits range from the Off-Broadway stage to the Oprah Winfrey Show to the Metropolian Opera.
On Broadway, she’s been featured in the Tony Award-Winning musical ME AND MY GIRL, starring Robert Lindsey, and in the musical GANTRY, starring the late Robert Shaw, for which she won critical acclaim in her performance of the song leader, Adelberta Shoup.
Off-Broadway, Gloria won both an OBIE and THEATRE WORLD AWARD for her creation of the role of MR. BERTIE in the musical THE CLUB, directed by Tommy tune. “Tall, dark, beautifully handsome, a golden-throated soprano with an overdose of stage presence”..according to the Village Voice.
National Tours / Regional Theatre include Madame Giry in all three national companies of PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, Julie in SHOWBOAT, The Mother Superior in THE SOUND OF MUSIC, Manon in BITTERSWEET, Maria in LEND ME A TENOR and The Fly in HAPPY END.
As a classically trained operatic soprano, Ms. Hodes has sung principal roles with major companies, including the Metropolitan, Seattle and Cleveland Operas-and with diversified venues such as the Conejo Valley Symphony and the American Concert Ballet. Her operatic roles include the title roles of TOSCA, AIDA, and ALCESTE, as well as Santuzza in CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA, Magda in THE CONSUL, Amelia in THE MASKED BALL, and Mimi in LA BOHEME.
With chamber orchestras, dance companies, ensembles and in solo recitals, Gloria presents a combination of standard musical repertoire and original works – many written specifically for her.
Her commitment to the music of living composers includes the creation of the role of Buffy Buffington in Pulitzer Prize-winning composer William Bolcom’s, Casino Paradise and the leading role of Octavia Valentine in GRAMMY®-nominated composer Deborah Henson-Conant’s musical The Zero Club. Hodes has also inspired the composition of theatrical song-cycles by composer Henson-Conant, including Songs of the Pyre and Persephone Lost.
Her current side-project, Mabel, is an original one-woman show in development with director Robert Post. As a producer, Gloria's non-profit production company Music & Masque is committed to supporting the creation of theatrical concert works from the work-in-progress stage to final performance, and focuses on new vocal works in all styles, but especially those requiring singers who are equally skilled theatrically and vocally
